# User Guide: WordPress Topeta Framework

The WordPress Topeta Framework is a free plugin that manages the license keys and automatic updates of your premium Topeta WordPress plugins. This guide covers installation, activating your keys and what each status means.

## Installation and setup

### 1. Requirements

- WordPress 6.0 or later and PHP 7.4 or later.
- A Topeta WordPress plugin and its license key, for example [Paddle Payment Gateway for EDD](https://my.topeta.com/downloads/wp-paddle-payment-gateway-for-edd/).
- Your server must be able to make outgoing HTTPS connections to my.topeta.com.

### 2. Install the framework

1. Download the free framework from [WordPress Topeta Framework](https://my.topeta.com/downloads/wp-topeta-framework/), or from [Downloads & updates](https://my.topeta.com/my-downloads/) in your account.
2. In WordPress, go to **Plugins > Add New Plugin > Upload Plugin**, choose the .zip and click **Install Now**.
3. Click **Activate**.

### 3. Activate your license keys

1. Go to **Settings > Topeta Licenses**. Every Topeta plugin installed on the site is listed.
2. Paste the license key next to the plugin and click **Activate**. Your keys are listed under [Licenses](https://my.topeta.com/licenses/) in your account.
3. The status changes to **Active**, with the date your updates and support run until and how many sites the key is used on.

## Automatic updates

While a license includes updates, new versions appear in **Dashboard > Updates** and on the Plugins screen like any other plugin update. To check straight away, click **Check all licences and updates now** under Settings > Topeta Licenses.

## License statuses

- **Active**: the plugin is licensed, with updates and support.
- **Updates expired**: a lifetime license whose update period has ended. The plugin keeps working; renew to get updates and support again.
- **Not activated**: the key is not activated on this site, for example after moving the site. Click **Activate**.
- **No activations left**: the key is already used on its maximum number of sites. Deactivate it on another site, or free a site under Licenses in your account.
- **Invalid** or **Disabled**: check that you pasted the right key for this product, or open a support ticket.

## Moving a license to another site

On the old site, click **Deactivate** next to the plugin under Settings > Topeta Licenses. Then activate the same key on the new site.

## Troubleshooting

**Could not reach my.topeta.com**: your host or firewall blocks outgoing HTTPS requests. Ask your host to allow connections to my.topeta.com on port 443. The last known license status is kept until the check works again.
